Brief History
Swadesh Darshan Scheme is a project of Ministry of Tourism under Government of India. The project aims to promote, develop and harness the potential of tourism in India.The Ministry of Tourism launched its flagship project of 'Swadesh Darshan' in 2014-15 and provided financial assistance to the State Governments for development of tourism infrastructure at various destinations, subject to availability of funds, submission of suitable Detailed Project Reports, Adherence to project guidelines and utilization of funds released earlier etc. During the period 2014-15 to 2018-19, a total number of 76 projects were sanctioned under identified thematic circuits in 31 States/UTs of the country for Rs. 5292.57 Crore.
The Ministry of Tourism has now revamped its Swadesh Darshan scheme as SD2.0 with the objective to develop sustainable and responsible destinations following a tourist & destination centric approach.
Vision
To develop sustainable and responsible tourism destinations in the country.
Mission
To create a robust framework for integrated development of tourism destinations in partnership with the States Governments for promoting sustainable and responsible tourism in the country.
Objectives
The strategic objectives of the Project are:
1.To enhance the contribution of tourism to the local economies
2.To create jobs including self-employment for local communities
3.To enhance the skills of local youth in tourism and hospitality
4.To increase private sector investment in tourism and hospitality
5.To preserve and enhance the local cultural and natural resources
Key Principles
In order to achieve the vision of sustainable and responsible tourism and the key objectives of enhancing the contribution of tourism to local economy and local jobs, the following principles have been identified to be followed under the Project:
